Grand Teton Fall ‘26 Meetup

Event Snapshot

Dates: Friday, September 25 – Tuesday, September 29, 2026
Location: Grand Teton National Park
Format: Group camping, naturalist discussions, creative exercises, wildlife observation, scenic hikes, campfire conversations, and collaborative storytelling

Grand Teton National Park

Experience the raw beauty, ecological complexity, and creative inspiration of Grand Teton National Park during the height of autumn. The Grand Teton Wild Creative Meetup is more than a creative gathering — it is an immersive experience designed to deepen your relationship with the natural world through storytelling, observation, curiosity, and community.

This year’s meetup places an even stronger emphasis on the naturalist approach that has organically evolved within Wild Creative over the years. Together, we will not only photograph and create within these landscapes, but actively engage with them — learning about the wildlife, geology, ecology, flora, conservation challenges, and interconnected systems that make the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem one of the most extraordinary wild regions left on Earth.

Participants will be encouraged to slow down, observe deeply, ask questions, research species and ecosystems, and creatively interpret what they learn through their own artistic mediums. Whether through photography, filmmaking, journaling, painting, writing, field sketching, sound recording, or simple observation, this experience is about cultivating a deeper awareness of place.

Who Is This For?

Wild Creative meetups are open to anyone inspired by creativity, curiosity, and the natural world — regardless of skill level or background. You do not need to be a professional artist, scientist, or experienced outdoors person to belong here.

These gatherings are designed for photographers, filmmakers, writers, musicians, painters, naturalists, educators, conservationists, students, and anyone seeking a deeper connection with wild places and the people who care about them.

This is a space for exploration rather than perfection. A place to disconnect from constant output and reconnect with curiosity, wonder, observation, and meaningful human connection.

Whether you are documenting wildlife with a camera, sketching landscapes in a journal, researching native plants, recording sounds, writing poetry, or simply learning to notice the small details around you — you are welcome here.

What to Expect

Guided Exploration & Wildlife Observation

  • Explore alpine valleys, wetlands, forests, lakes, and mountain overlooks throughout the park

  • Search for wildlife including moose, elk, bears, foxes, birds of prey, migratory birds, and more

  • Learn about animal behavior, migration, ecology, and conservation challenges within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem

  • Easy to moderate hikes suitable for mixed abilities

Naturalist & Creative Challenges

Throughout the meetup, attendees will be encouraged to engage in “Wild to Inspire” style prompts and naturalist challenges designed to deepen observation and storytelling.

Examples may include:

  • Researching and presenting a species, ecosystem, geological feature, or conservation topic

  • Creating work inspired by ecological relationships within the park

  • Observing and documenting flora and fauna behavior

  • Exploring how creativity can educate and inspire conservation action

  • Journaling reflections and emotional responses to wild places

The goal is not simply to create beautiful images or artwork, but to better understand and communicate the stories of the landscapes around us.

Campfire Circle Chats & Community

  • Evening campfire discussions focused on creativity, conservation, storytelling, ecology, and personal growth

  • Collaborative learning and intentional conversation

  • Opportunities for attendees to share projects, research, art, and ideas

  • Safe and welcoming environment for solo travelers and first-time attendees

Many people arrive not knowing a single other attendee and leave with lifelong friendships, collaborators, and a renewed sense of inspiration.

Autumn in the Tetons

Fall Foliage

Late September brings vibrant color to the Tetons, with glowing aspens, willows, cottonwoods, and alpine vegetation transforming the valleys into gold, orange, and crimson.

Wildlife Activity

Autumn is one of the most dynamic seasons in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem:

  • Elk bugling and rut activity

  • Moose gathering near wetlands and rivers

  • Increased bear activity before winter

  • Migratory birds moving through the region

  • Opportunities to observe changing seasonal behavior across species

Why This Experience Matters

Wild places have the power to transform people.

Many attendees leave Wild Creative gatherings with a deeper understanding of ecology, conservation, public lands, and humanity’s connection to nature. The Tetons become more than scenery — they become a living classroom, a creative muse, and a reminder of what is worth protecting.

This meetup is designed to inspire not only creativity, but stewardship.

Application Process

To preserve an intentional and connected experience, attendance is limited and applications are required.

Application Includes:

  • Your creative interests or passions

  • What draws you to wild places

  • What you hope to learn, explore, or contribute

  • Experience with camping, hiking, or creative/community gatherings

No professional portfolio is required. Passion, curiosity, kindness, and openness matter far more than experience level.

Applications close August 31, 2026.

Bryce Canyon ‘26 Meetup (Inaugural)

Join us for the inaugural Wild Creative Meetup at Bryce Canyon National Park from May 15th to May 19th. We’ll begin on the 15th with a relaxed meet-and-greet and itinerary overview. The following days will be filled with sunrise shoots among the hoodoos, scenic hikes along the rim and into the amphitheaters, and sunset outings that showcase Bryce’s ever-changing light and color. Evenings offer incredible opportunities for stargazing and astrophotography, as Bryce Canyon is an International Dark Sky Park known for its exceptionally clear night skies.
May 19th will serve as a sendoff, post-editing session, or optional extended stay for anyone interested in collaborating on additional creative projects in the park.

Weather:
In mid-May, expect average daytime highs around 60–70°F (16–21°C), with overnight lows near 30–40°F (-1–4°C) due to Bryce’s high elevation. Weather can change quickly, and late-season snow is possible—warm layers, wind protection, and cold-weather camping gear are strongly recommended.

Highlights:

  • Hoodoos & Amphitheaters: Photograph Bryce’s iconic limestone hoodoos, natural amphitheaters, and dramatic geological formations found nowhere else on Earth.

  • Sunrise & Alpenglow: Bryce is famous for its sunrise light, with soft pinks, oranges, and purples illuminating the canyon.

  • High-Elevation Landscapes: Experience sweeping views, ancient bristlecone pines, and vast plateaus shaped by time and weather.

  • Dark Sky Experience: Exceptionally clear night skies ideal for Milky Way photography and long-exposure night work.

Astrophotography:
This meetup is scheduled near a new moon, providing optimal darkness for stargazing and Milky Way photography in one of the darkest parks in the U.S.

Planned Hikes:
Hikes will vary in length and elevation. We’ll keep a relaxed pace with frequent stops for photos and rest. The longest hike will be approximately 5–6 miles (8–10 km) with moderate elevation changes at high altitude.

Preparation:

  • Hiking Gear: Sturdy footwear, layers, gloves, and wind protection.

  • Photography Equipment: Cameras, lenses, tripods, headlamps, and extra batteries (cold drains batteries quickly).

  • Camping Supplies: Cold-weather camping gear if camping; nights can dip below freezing.

  • Hydration & Sun Protection: High elevation means stronger sun exposure, even in cooler temperatures.

This meetup is an opportunity to connect with fellow creatives, slow down, and create meaningful work in one of the most visually striking landscapes in the Southwest. Whether you’re a photographer, filmmaker, writer, painter, musician, or simply a lover of wild places, this gathering is designed to inspire.

We can’t wait to create, explore, and share this unforgettable Bryce Canyon experience with you.

Wild Creatives are always FREE to attend. We do ask for voluntary donations to cover group site expenses.
